Teaching Philosophy A teacher defined by webster dictionary is: someone who teaches or instructs, especially for their occupation. However a teacher is so much more than that. A teacher is someone who educates our communities, inspires lives, and teaches our youth. Teachers Teach the Community Art is sometimes seen as frivolous, or not necessary. I will strive to change this ideology by incorporating art into everyday events. Things such as Empty Bowls project, an event where the students create bowls that will be sold at a soup dinner, and all the proceeds collected are donated to charity. My role is to educate the community the importance that art has in all of our lives. Teachers Inspire Lives My role as a teacher is to help every student understand that they have a voice, and their voices can be heard or not heard through their artwork. I will strive to motivate all students to not be afraid to have their voice being heard in the world. Children are all motivated by different things. Every person has a different Appreciation Language. These tests are created to find a person’s desired acknowledgment styles. This study and test was created to be incorporated into everyday lives. There are five ideas that can be brought into the classroom to meet these needs they are: Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time, Physical Touch. All of these categories, though they tell about the students way of feeling appreciated, can also demonstrate how a child is motivated. A person who needs words of affirmation will be motivated by simply telling them that they are doing a good job. Someone who needs acts of service needs to feel as if what they are doing is appreciated, and that they are appreciated enough for someone else to do something nice for them in return, and so on. All five of these categories have different motivators, and if you know how each student reacts to certain motivators, you are more than likely going to have an excited class that feels appreciated one hundred percent of the time. Teachers Teach Students I am someone who loves learning. I feel as if everything that a person does is a chance to learn something. I will strive to create an atmosphere where every person who enters my classroom will be excited to learn new things. However, every student has a different preferred learning style. Research has shown that students who learn only in their preferred style do not learn as much as students who were taught in a style different to their preferred style. And students who were taught by using every style of learning were able to retain the information longer than both of the previous stated. Therefore, I will strive to create an environment where all students are challenged in a way that creates a hub for new cognitive development. I will also strive to constantly be developing my knowledge of the art world to ensure that all my students are receiving the most up todate information. My role as a teacher is not only to teach students about art, but teach students how to be, and act like good citizens, within our communities. In Conclusion Being a teacher is so much more than relying on facts. Teaching is educating the community, inspiring lives, and teaching our future. Teachers have to motivate the students to want to come to school, instead of playing sick at home. I want to create an environment where everyone and every idea is welcomed, but everyone, and every idea is shaped, refined, and articulated in the way that the students want their message to be viewed.
